 UNDERSTANDING BIODIESEL

Indonesia is already the largest producer of biodiesel worldwide and third largest in biofuels with Government stipulating a rise in the renewable mix from 30% to 50% biodiesel by 2025, in line with its policy to reduce national CO2 emissions and Indonesia’s dependence on fossil fuels.

A RENEWABLE SOURCE OF ENERGY. Biodiesel by its very nature, using plant based oils, is renewable. Current concentrations are B30 (30% biodiesel and 70% petrodiesel). Biodiesel meets the Indonesia’s Renewable Fuel Standard.

ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE. Biodiesel contributes to reduce the national carbon footprint and the crucial goal of mitigating climate change. Biodiesel is close to CO2 neutral: the natural sequestration of carbon during crop growing offsets the CO2 produced in burning the fuel. Biodiesel significantly reduces tailpipe emissions, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. It also improves fuel lubricity and increases the cetane number of the fuel, a measurement of quality and performance. The higher the cetane number, the better the fuel burns within the engine.

NATURE AT WORK. Biodiesel is hygroscopic, meaning it easily absorbs moisture from the air. In a tropical climate, tank condensation is inevitable. Microbial contamination thrives in water while feeding off the hydrocarbons in the fuel, and the resulting diesel bug doubles in size about every 20 minutes. Within a short time biodiesel fuel can become highly contaminated with detritus in the form of a greasy sludge sinking to the tank bottom.

SOLVE THE DIESEL BUG. Adding fresh fuel to a tank that already has the diesel bug simply perpetuates contamination. Cleaning your storage tank but not cleaning dispensing or equipment tanks is not the answer. Filters become a largely ineffective and costly stopgap, easily blocked with detritus. In any event the diesel bug passes through most filters to continue growing in your tanks. Our sampling tests show biofuel cleanliness rating of B under ISO 4406 – ASTM D7596 standards as normal - which means already there is a small level of deterioration .
